Reeds – interactive light sculpture
Think – Experience light in an otherwise dark environ. Interactive to participants and perfectly complementary to it’s environment.
Arduino, well actually Sunfounder, micro controllers are going to be the brains driving reeds. This provides for the opportunity to build an interactive art experience.
I have most of the necessary parts including test boards and PWM drivers which tell the LEDs what to do. I’m still working out the LED light strips themselves. Micro-manufacturing has played a big part in the progression of LED based products in the last 10 years. They’ve gotten smaller, less power hungry and more vivid color. I’ve got several LED variations running concurrently. Cost is the barrier between choices.
Arduino and compatible brands have been a widely adopted micro controller due open source fundamentals, large active user support base and low component cost. Additionally, low size, weight and power consumption of the electronics contributes to building small but powerful controllers.
Software. By telling the boards what to do, we accomplish the goal. I say “we” because I will be using plenty of hacked code pieces to get started. Light output will be adjusted accordingly the software interpretation of sensor input. Software is the cornerstone of the concept.
